Calgary Dental ImplantsWhat are Dental Implants?
If you are missing one or more of your teeth, there are many options available. Dental implants are gaining popularity, mainly because they are the closest thing to having your own teeth again. When they are done correctly, they will function, look, and feel just like your natural teeth.
Implants are a permanent solution to restore missing teeth. Studies have shown that they actually can be stronger than your natural teeth. If you have adequate bone density and are in good general health, you could be a candidate. The Dental Implant Procedure
There are two main parts involved with placing dental implants. Surgery is the first step in which a titanium post is implanted directly into the jawbone. The surgical post is anchored into place and serves to replace your tooth root.
There is usually a period of healing time between the surgical and the restorative procedures where the implant sets into place. What happens is the jawbone actually bonds with the implant in a process called osseointegration. This is very important because it actually prevents facial collapse, a bone loss condition that occurs when you are missing teeth. During the restorative part of the procedure, our dentists will create a porcelain crown that is made to fit directly over the implant. |
